What is not meant to be, never is!
It does not matter how much you stick to it, drag it along or try to keep it alive. All the elixir of this world will not save it, and if you're 'smart', you'll realise a lost cause when it stares you in the face.
It does not do to be a martyr, not for yourself and not for the sake of anyone else. You'll end up defeated, feeling cheated, blaming it on all but yourself, forgetting that it was you, who so willingly chose to carry the cross, in the first place!
That reminds me distinctly of Rhett and Scarlett, and I suddenly realise why the world worships bravery. I have had little occasion to be impressed by courage, except now when I begin to appreciate the heroism of these characters.
It astounds me, their bravery bordering on foolishness, confidence amounting to insolence, such brilliant recklessness, the absolute surety of purpose, of goals, and the willingness to risk it all for the one thing they want. To possess and wield an iron will, a bull-doggish determination, a belief that all can be conquered and to stoutly refuse to accept obvious defeat, to give up everything and then finally lose it all. It takes a lot to be someone like that!
One can either sink with one's flag flying high, like Rhett does, or salvage their cargo and escape on a make-shift raft, much like Scarlett, or hitch a ride on the next passing by boat. Most people I meet would do this last and argue that it is, after all the most 'practical' thing to do!
This time around however, I shall not object, but simply join the crowd and smile at my heroes, the ones I know I will not to measure upto!

If this were a debate my opponents would have objected to the first part saying you can conveniently define something as not meant to be after it has ceased to exist! How do you know before hand? :P :P
ReplyDeletePoint ofcourse being that this is not a debate :D
