Euphony!

As Rand says and as I have seen since "All of love if selfish! "

I guess I love something because of what it gives me, my being!
Held my own guitar yesterday and struck a few chords! :) And there was this sudden surge of feelings: happiness, bliss, excitement, relief from the humdrum and a sense of well being! :)

That's what music gives me and I guess that's why I love it. :)

The Solitude ....

I AM monarch of all I survey;
My right there is none to dispute;
From the centre all round to the sea
I am lord of the fowl and the brute

The beasts that roam over the plain
My form with indifference see—
They are so unacquainted with man,
Their tameness is shocking to me.

The solitude of Alexander Selkirk! It is enchanting- now more than ever. Strange how somethings you read just stick to your mind unattended and then flash back some day. We were made to mug up these poems in childhood- to what end I wonder? So that years later, at some point they might come back to us when we had the ability to appreciate them!

Selkirk is marooned on an island, where no one knows him, the animals are too trusting, too naive to be afraid him and include him in their brood. He is finally free to do what he wants, no society, no bonds, no rules, no haunting past, he can make a new life starting from scratch! He feels like he rules the place!!
He can as Rand would say live only for himself at last!

But he is alone, no family, no friends, no one to think about, no one to talk to, no one to compete with, no one he would want to impress. Only a bunch of animals he knows he does not belong to!
What a life..........
But then there's hope as he says:

There's mercy in every place;
And mercy—encouraging thought!—
Gives even affliction a grace,
And reconciles man to his lot. :)

Intelligent people? ..Met many of them in the last four years atleast! :)
Dumb People?...Met many of those too :D...and actually also met many who overlap with the above !!! :P
Saw a few who are intelligent AND hard-working

Recently came across a person who's intelligent and dedicated AND smart...who knows how to work hard and also knows how to get work done out of people, knows his way around society and its people, who knows exactly how genuine which person is.

Maybe I should learn this trick!

Gone To Texas!

A HUGE, overwhelming, awe inspiring welcome thrown by UT yesterday! :)

The usual rigmarole with beckoning speeches, welcoming Profs, preachy DEANs was followed, embellished with encouraging quotations, assurances of greatness and promises of a brilliant future!! (Much like an IIT orientation :D)


But what was new was the festivity, the overflowing pride, cheering, friendly rivalry between different colleges! colours..lights...music...huge Cowboy Hats!




There was orange flowing everywhere, proud Longhorns hooking their horns :)......beautiful cheerleaders and their bright pom poms onto their entire dance routine!



A gargantuan band, Bharatnatyam performance, acapella songs, choir groups, electric guitars, country to rock music!


Banners, on field war cries, flags, horns :D, and the UT tower resplendent in orange and the Texan flag flown from its top!Despite my being a MaTka now :p.... huge music fests, college crowd, competitions, youth, screaming is still very much a part of my life!!



And for all my misgivings, UT seems a nice place :)

To Austin!

Well am here for 11 days now..so that deserves a note!
Austin is a pretty place.....green and clean!
Posh, organised, pretty much like the rest of US I guess, people are welcoming and helpful!
But it doesn't feel like a foreign land, only due to the masses of desis - 'that's what we call ourselves :P' everywhere! Nor is it very unfamiliar or difficult to settle in! People either love Indians or ARE Indians. :D
It is much more comfortable and familiar but much less beautiful than Europe!...Or is it that 3 months in Switzerland have simply elevated my tastes ??!
Yet! It's not home :) So I really don't know what to say!

Somehow I'm finding the non-IITians better company than the IITians :P :P

The Indian guys are simply as desperate as ever! ..trying to catch glimpses of the gorgeous women that fill this place :D

The americans are obese (I fit in! :D )....warm....have a great sense of humour and waste too much!

UT is a nice Univ..there's the famed tower shown above and a wonderful fountain on campus...a host of activities..barbeques....sports...... but needless to say I am missing IIT, my hostel, my friends, my running around all over campus poking finger in every pie! :)

Back to IIT...

Came to Hostel yesterday! Was wonderful to see everyone, and got as warm a welcome as can be!

Everyone here is so different...their views differ so much..and yet staying together for 4 years has rubbed onto all. Who would think we would all gel together so well? WOuld care for one another? look forward to seeing each other?

And yet ...we do!

So......Back to IIT...to hostel food..cack sessions...LAN!...lukkha...I am already sitting on net doing abs. nothing :D
